Underrated live singers

Musicians often sound different on an album versus in concert. Sometimes they can be disappointing, but I’ve been lucky to see some great live performances.

One of the most underrated bands was Linkin Park. Chester Bennington’s voice was just as great (if not better) in a giant stadium as in the album.

The tour I saw (Projekt Revolution) also had Mudvayne, Xhibit, and Supernatural. The fans seemed not to like the blend, as the rap fans hated the rock and Vice versa.

Personally, I was just excited to be there.

I’m not typically a fan of Mudvayne, but Chad Gray sounded amazing when singing with Chester. He came out to do several songs together, and they did a great job.

Another amazing live singer was Chris Cornell.

The man had the chops of an opera singer and could fill the arena with his pitch perfect voice. I got to see him live one time and forever remained a fan after.

Cornell was the first person I remember thinking the recordings couldn’t do his voice justice. There were so many layers to it, and the notes he could hit filled the air in a way you just had to be there for.

On the other end of this spectrum is EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) and EDM DJs in general. I’ve never been impressed by the rave performances.

I’ve attended several of these massive festivals in Las Vegas, and I still don’t get it. Whether a private performance with Aviici or one of seven stages with artists like Flosstradamus, I just couldn’t get into it.

It was just watching a guy dance while playing with his computer. All the pyrotechnics in the world couldn’t get me to see it any other way.
