25 Years Later – RIP Tupac Shakur

The photo of Tupac Shakur before being gunned down in Las Vegas qualifies as several levels of dark.

The photo was taken September 7, 1996 after a Mike Tyson fight at the MGM Grand by then-29-year-old photographer Leonard Jefferson. He tells the story of taking the photo in Complex, which is an interesting read 25 years laterThe Story Behind the Final Photograph of 2PacLeonard Jefferson snapped the last photograph of 2Pac while he was still alive. Here’s what went down that night. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.www.complex.com/music/2016/09/last-picture-of-2pac

They’re sitting in a black BMW at the intersection he would be shot at only minutes later. He was shot from a .40-caliber Glock four times: twice in the chest, once in the arm, and once in the thigh. He died six days later in the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.

You can see a lot in Pac and Suge’s faces, and it’s as haunting an image today as it was 25 years ago.

Tomorrow is the anniversary of his death, and we’ll never get answers about his murder. Movies have been made, magazine and newspaper articles written, but it’s unsolved.

His legacy lives on through his music and movie roles. Tupac still inspires rappers, but you can see the pain of his lifestyle in his eyes.

Tupac got into a fight earlier in the lobby of the MGM Grand. He had been shot before, and his no-holds-barred approach to life made him a constant target.

Dr. Dre mentioned on the documentary of the Up in Smoke tour that had 2pac had the security that they do now, he would still be alive. When 6ix9ine flexes that he’s not using security, he’s not talking about when he’s attending public events.

Even Justin Bieber has security for concerts, and there’s a great documentary about it that explores private security used in a variety of settings, including war zones and concerts.http://thoughtforyourpenny.com/culture/entertainment/bodyguards-secret-lives-watchtower-explores-private-security-like-never/?amp
